A “climate emergency” is a term we are becoming more used to hearing in the news.
But more often than not, we see this as something other people can take care of – what can one person or business do to make a change? Well, it’s all becoming a bit real and is not something we can afford to ignore any longer. Every one of us must make an effort to reduce the impact we are having on the planet.
But as a small business owner, what can I do?
Luckily, I have a colleague leading the way in this area, which made the process easy and affordable. Enter John Scotcher of Beyond Carbon Neutral https://www.beyondcarbonneutral.co.uk/. He has decided enough is enough and so, has gathered resources to present an easy way for businesses to calculate their carbon footprint and learn how to offset it. You will need some information about your mileage, electricity and gas usage and if you travel further afield, flight or public transport information. So using this calculator: https://www.carbonfootprint.com/small_business_calculator.html – I entered in my details and clicked on the results. After working out what my company carbon footprint is, I was presented with several options to offset this. So I opted for the planting of local trees at a cost of £64.50 for the year – and that was that!
Whilst I understand that this is not going to overnight repair the damage that has been caused to the planet, it is a start to making a difference. Beyond Carbon Neutral provides an easy way for small businesses to make some positive changes.
