When you are having a website designed, it will become the online portal or ‘shop window’ for your business, especially if you don’t actually have a real shop window. So it is one part of a brand that represents your company and services to the online world and potential customers.
So having a professional logo design is part of that image and branding, and should be taken seriously. The colours and fonts are likely to influence the choices made in designing a website and so its important to get that right from the start. All too often I have clients who have created something themselves in Word and then I have to try and get that into a web design that looks cohesive and reputable! Its a tall order! So my advice is spend some time getting the logo right before tackling a website design and/or any other publicity materials. If you rush that part of the process, you will only wish you hadn’t and end up doubling back to tackle it at a later date.
I choose to work with a partner graphic designer just because of timing issues and we each have our own skills to offer and specialise in different mediums. We offer a set logo package which provides an intial three concepts as a starting point, picking one to then focus on.
So by way of illustration – this is the evolution of my logo from the old to the latest version for comparison. Its very hard to design for oneself and so external input is very useful!
